Ricky Reid hails from Bangor, Northern Ireland and arrived in St Ninian's in November 2005. Since then has made his mark as our hard working and popular minister, not just ministering to the congregation but to the whole community of Nairn. Ricky's first degree was a BSc in Zoology but it was not long before he was called to undertake studies for the ministry, qualifying with the Cambridge Diploma in Religious Studies, a Bachelor of Divinity from the University of London and a Master of Theology from the University of Wales. For nine years he was Pastor of the Assembly of God New Life Church, Dunfermline before applying to become a Church of Scotland minister and gaining experience as Assistant Minister at Kinghorn Church, Fife before being called to St Ninian's.
A native of the Isle of Bute, Donald Maclagan's introduction to church music was in the High Kirk of Rothesay where he sang in the choir from the age of ten. Introduced to the organ there, and with this interest nourished during teenage years as a boarder at George Watson's College in Edinburgh, church music would have been his choice of career. However, in the 1970s offspring did what parents told them to do and Donald got a "proper" job! Nevertheless, church music remained an abiding interest and over the ensuing years Donald served as organist of Candlish (now renamed Polwarth) Parish Church, Edinburgh, Kingussie Parish Church and Kintore Parish Church. Only after taking early retiral from his day job was Donald able to further his musical career by being appointed Organist of St Ninian's in December 2003 and then in 2007 gaining his Certificate of Higher Education in Sacred Music Studies from the University of Wales and the Diploma of the Royal School of Church Music.
On Sunday 18th December 2005, along with Gorden Tocher of Inverness Cathedral, Donald Maclagan in St Ninian's was one of only two organists in the Highlands to take part in the BBC Radio 3 A Bach Christmas by playing the famous Toccata and Fugue in d minor BWV 565 of J S Bach at the morning service, and in May 2010 he was priviledged to give two recitals on the magnificent world-class concert organ of Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery in Glasgow.
